Aujourd'hui est une journée double, j'ai un billet pour le dressage à Versailles et, l'après-midi, encore un peu de formation au golf avec le laser. Ça a commencé par brancher la voiture à la borne de recharge à la Mairie. Quelques complications mais ça fonctionne. Ensuite, nous mettons mon vélo sur le porte-vélo. Et c'est parti pour Versailles. Le début de la route se passe bien où se passe tous qui concerne équitation.
A Versailles c'est la folie. Beaucoup de trafic et Alex m'emmène aussi près du site que possible. Il y a beaucoup de policiers dans les rues.

Le parking à vélos est à l'entrée 4 et j'arrive finalement juste à temps. Quelle scène ! Incroyablement beau avec trois grandes tribunes. J'ai acheté mon billet via P1 Travel aux Pays-Bas et il se trouve que toute une section est réservée à eux, donc je me retrouve parmi des Néerlandais, même avec des maillots de l'équipe NL. Le couple à côté de moi a tout ce qu'il faut pour se protéger du soleil, car aujourd'hui est une journée très ensoleillée et chaude ; à 11 heures, il faisait déjà 34 degrés, je pense. Je profite de toutes leurs affaires car je peux mettre mes jambes sous leur couverture anti-UV, et le parapluie UV offre tellement d'ombre que j'en bénéficie aussi.

Après une série de magnifiques épreuves de dressage, je me dirige vers le Golf National à vélo. Environ 16 kilomètres d'abord à travers Versailles puis à travers la forêt. Mon téléphone se décharge (trop) rapidement à cause du GPS. Il y a un parking à vélos pour les volontaires, mais il est en plein soleil ce qui est très mauvais pour la batterie. Le gardien me permet de mettre mon vélo à l'ombre et j'espère que cela sera possible pour la suite des journées de compétition aussi. Le groupe Omega était installé sur le green du trou numéro 1. Là, j'ai fait quelques tests, et un autre volontaire tenait un parapluie au-dessus de moi car nous étions sur une plateforme (échafaudage) au niveau du green (comme les caméramans) en plein soleil. Je pense qu'il fait déjà 39 degrés maintenant. Il semble qu'une ombrelle va être installée. Croisons les doigts pour que ce soit bien le cas ! Des joueurs arrivent, d'abord les Japonais puis les Norvégiens.

Sur le départ du trou 2, je suis juste à côté de Viktor Hovland quelle chance. Je retourne à vélo à travers la forêt vers Stéphanie, où nous pouvons garer nos vélos. Entre-temps, Alex est arrivé avec la voiture, et Stéphanie nous invite à prendre un verre (ce qui s'est transformé en 1,5 litre d'eau pour moi car j'étais complètement déshydraté). Une femme très gentille. De retour à l'appartement, nous allons maintenant recharger complètement la voiture et manger un bon petit plat. Encore une journée super sympa mais je suis épuisée! Today is a busy day; I have a ticket for Dressage in Versailles, and in the afternoon, I still have some training/practice at the golf course with the laser. We started to connect the car to the charger at the Mairie. A bit of a hassle, but it worked out. Then we put my bike on the bike rack. And off to Versailles. The beginning of the route was fine, but in Versailles, it was chaos. Lots of traffic, and Alex took me as far as possible. Here too, there was a heavy police presence. The bike parking was at entrance 4, and I arrived just in time. What a venue! Incredibly beautiful, with three large grandstands.

I bought my ticket through P1 Travel in the Netherlands, and it turns out they had an entire section reserved because I was surrounded by other Dutch people, some even wearing Team NL shirts. The couple next to me had all sorts of things to protect themselves from the sun because today was a very sunny and hot day; by 11 a.m., it was already about 34 degrees. I benefited a lot from all their anti-UV stuff because I could put my legs under their UV blanket, and the UV umbrella provided so much shade that I enjoyed that too. After watching a lot of magnificent dressage tests, I headed to the Golf National by bike. About 16 kilometers, first through Versailles and then through the forest. My phone's battery drained (too) quickly because of the GPS I had to use to find my way! Close to the Golf there is bike parking for volunteers, but it was in full sun, which is terrible for the battery. The guard let me put my bike in the shade, and hopefully, I can do that for the next two weeks as well. The Omega group was set up on the green of hole 1. I did some tests there, and another volunteer was kind enough to hold an umbrella over me to provide some shade as we were standing on a platform near the green (just like the cameramen) in full sun. I estimate it was already 39 degrees. It looks like they’re going to install a parasol. Fingers crossed that they do! Players started arriving, first the Japanese and then the Norwegians. On the tee box of hole 2, I was standing right next to Viktor Hovland.

I biked through the forest to Stephanie’s place, where we are allowed to park our bikes. Meanwhile, Alex arrived with the car, and Stephanie invited us for a drink (which turned out to be 1.5 liters of water because I was completely dehydrated). A very kind woman. Back at the apartment, we’ve put the car to on the charger to be charged fully and have a nice meal. Another super fun day! Although I was honestly exhausted. Vandaag is een dubbele dag, ik heb een billet voor Dressuur in Versailles en ’s middags nog een restje cursus/oefenen op de golf met de laser. Het begon met de auto aan de oplader bij de Mairie aan te sluiten. Beetje gedoe maar lukte wel. Toen mijn fiets op de bagagedrager. En dan op weg naar Versailles. Het begin van de route is prima, maar in Versailles is het een gekkenhuis. Veel verkeer en Alex brengt me zover als het kan. Ook hier weer veel blauw op straat. De fietsenstalling is bij entrée 4 en ik kom uiteindelijk net op tijd aan. Wat een stage. Ongelofelijk mooi met 3 grote tribunes. Mijn kaartje heb ik gekocht via P1 Travel in Nederland en die heeft een heel vak blijkt want ik zit tussen Nederlanders zelfs met Team NL shirts.

Het stel naast mij heeft van alles om tegen de zon te beschermen want vandaag is een hele zonnige en hete dag, om 11 uur was het al 34 graden schat ik. Ik profiteer enorm van al die spullen want ik mag mijn benen onder de UV deken, en de UV-paraplui geeft zoveel schaduw dat ik daar ook van profiteer.

Na een heleboel schitterende dressuur proeven ga ik op weg naar de Golf National op de fiets. Ongeveer 16 kilometer eerst door Versailles en dan door bos. Mijn telefoon loopt (te) snel leeg door de GPS. Er is een fietsenstalling voor de vrijwilligers maar die is in de volle zon. Heel slecht voor de batterij. Ik mag van de bewaker mijn fiets in de schaduw zetten en hopelijk mag dat voor de aankomende 2 weken ook. De Omega groep was opgesteld op de green van hole 1. Daar wat tests gedaan en een andere vrijwilliger houdt een parapluie boven me want we staan bij de green op een stelling (net als de cameramensen) in de volle zon ik schat dat het nu al 39 graden is. Het ziet er naar uit dat er een parasol wordt gemonteerd. Duimen maar dat dat ook zo iks! Er komen spelers aan, eerst de Japanners en daarna de Noren. Op de teebox van hole 2 sta ik vlak naast Viktor Hovland. Op de fiets door het bos naar Stephanie waar we onze fietsen mogen stallen. Inmiddels is Alex aangekomen met de aut en ze nodigt ons uit voor een drankje (dat werd 1,5 liter water want ik was helemaal uitgedroogd). Een hele lieve vrouw. Terug naar het appartement gaan we nu de auto helemaal opladen en lekker een hapje eten. Weer een superleuke dag! Lundi… partis pour notre adresse au sud du Golf National. Nous n'avons aucun problème en route, peu de trafic et beau temps. Nous arrivons donc plus tôt que prévu et pouvons déjà entrer dans le gîte. C'est vraiment génial ! C'est spacieux et aussi frais, ce qui est agréable car il va faire chaud (et encore plus chaud). Après m'être changé en tenue olympique, nous allons au Golf National. Là, nous sommes arrêtés par trois gendarmes qui ne nous laissent vraiment pas passer ! Je peux continuer avec mon accréditation et aller voir où et comment. J'ai manqué l'entraînement du matin et je ne connais pas vraiment le chemin. C'est très agréable, je rencontre plusieurs connaissances et une amie (de golf) qui loge chez nous m'emmène au trou 17 où Omega a installé un test-laser. Heureusement, car j'ai vraiment beaucoup oublié. Tu ne le croiras pas mais nous avons tout de suite un test sur le green 17 avec l'équipe USA… tout près de tous les joueurs qui sont tous dans le top 10 du classement mondial : Scheffler, Schauffele, Clark et Morikawa. Il fait déjà très chaud et nous avons terminé avec différentes situations de test vers 16 heures. Je passe encore un moment au practice et sur le chemin du retour, je rencontre un joueur (je le découvre plus tard) de Colombie, Nicolas Echeverria, et je le vois trimballer des valises (!). Nous l'avons finalement conduit chez Avis pour sa voiture de location et j'ai reçu une belle "pins" de la Colombie en remerciement. Une première journée vraiment très agréable.

************* Monday… left for our address south of the Golf National. We had no problems on the way, little traffic, and nice weather. So, we arrived earlier than expected and were allowed into the gîte already. That’s really great! Nice and spacious and also cool, which is pleasant because it’s going to get warm(er).

After changing into my Olympic outfit, we went to the Golf National. There, we were stopped by three gendarmes who absolutely wouldn’t let us through! I was allowed to go through with my accreditation and see where and how? I missed the morning training and didn’t really know the way. It was very cool, I ran into a number of people I know and a (golf) friend who is staying with us. She took me to hole 17 where Omega had set up a test laser. Luckily, because I had really forgotten a lot. You won’t believe it but we immediately had a test on green 17 with team USA… very close to all the players who are all in the top 10 of the world ranking: Scheffler, Schauffele, Clark, and Morikaw what a chance! It was already very warm and we finished with different test situations around 4 PM. I stopped by the practice area and on the way out I ran into a (as it turns out later) player from Colombia, Nicolas Echeverria, and I saw him lugging suitcases(!). We ended up taking him to Avis for his rental car and I got a nice “pin” from Colombia as thanks. A very nice, complete first day.

Maandag…. vertrokken naar ons adres ten zuiden van de Golf National. We hebben geen probleem onderweg, weinig verkeer en mooi weer. We komen dus vroeger aan dan verwacht en mogen al in de gîte. Dat is toch helemaal leuk! Lekker ruim en ook koel, prettig want het wordt warm(er). Nadat ik me verkleed heb in mijn olympische tenue gaan we naar de Golf National. Daar worden we tegengehouden door een 3-tal gendarmes die ons echt niet doorlaten! Ik mag doorlopen met mijn accreditatie. En ga kijken waar en hoe? Ik heb de training van de ochtend gemist en weet niet echt de weg. Heel leuk, ik kom een aantal bekenden tegen en een (golf)vriendin die logeert bij ons neemt me mee naar hole 17 waar Omega een test-laser heeft opgezet. Gelukkig hoor want ik ben echt heel veel vergeten. Je gelooft het niet maar we hebben meteen een test op green 17 met team USA.... heel dichtbij alle spelers die overigens allemaal in de top 10 spelers van de wereld ranking staan: Scheffler, Schauffele, Clark en Morikawa. Het is al heel warm en we zijn klaar met verschillende testsituaties ongeveer rond 16 uur. Ik ga nog even langs de practice en op de weg naar buiten komen ik een (blijkt later) speler tegen uit Colombia,

Nicolas Echeverria en ik zie hem met koffers zeulen(!). We hebben hem uiteindelijk naar Avis gebracht voor zijn huurauto en ik kreeg een mooie “pin” Columbia als dank. Heel erg leuke complete 1e dag.

Voici le logo officiel. C'est vraiment beau, je dois dire. Complètement oublié de mentionner ! La propriétaire de l'appartement m'a appelé avec de bonnes nouvelles, pas pour eux mais pour nous. L'appartement est disponible plus tôt parce que les locataires prévus ont annulé. Nous prévoyons de partir tôt mardi parce que je veux être à l'heure au Château de Versailles pour la compétition de dressage. Nous avons un rendez-vous avec le manager et décidons de partir dès lundi. Cela tombe vraiment bien car l'organisation Omega exige que tous les bénévoles opérateurs laser s'entraînent encore une fois sur place. Pffff. Pour moi, ça ne peut se faire que lundi après-midi, mais cela est approuvé. Entre-temps, une révision en ligne. J'en suis très contente car j'avais un peu oublié les détails ! Sur FB, je vois que la flamme olympique est au Golf National. C'est génial. Les porteurs de la flamme sont tous des personnes qui ont eu ou ont une grande importance pour le golf en France. Sur la photo par example, Thomas Levet (vainqueur de l'Open de France), Jean van de Velde (le premier joueur français invité à jouer dans l’équipe de Ryder Cup), Gwladys Nocera (qui a joué et gagné sur le LPGA et accompagne des golfeuses françaises de haut niveau), et bien d'autres encore. Quelle honneur d'être invité pour cela. Et quelle magnifique tenue.

This is the official logo. Quite special, I must say. I completely forgot to mention! The manager of the apartment called me with good news, not for them but for us. The apartment is available earlier because the planned renters canceled. We plan to leave early on Tuesday because I want to be on time at the Chateau de Versailles for the dressage. We have an appointment with the manager and decide to go on Monday already. This turns out to be very convenient because the Omega organization requires (!) all volunteers who are laser operators to practice on-site one more time. Phew. I can only be there on Monday afternoon, but that's approved. Meanwhile, there's also a repeat of the online course. I am very happy about that because I had somewhat forgotten the finer details! Through Facebook, I see that the Olympic Flame is at the Golf National. How cool. The torchbearers are all people who have made or are making significant contributions to golf in France. Among others in the photo are Thomas Levet (winner of the Open de France), Jean van de Velde (the first French player invited to play in a Ryder Cup team), Gwladys Nocera (played and won on the LPGA and coach to high-level French female golfers), and many more of course. What an honor to be invited for this. And what a beautiful outfit.

Nu dan het officiële logo erbij. Wel bijzonder moet ik zeggen. Helemaal vergeten te melden! De verhuurder van het appartement heeft me gebeld met goed nieuws, niet voor hen maar wel voor ons. Het appartement is eerder beschikbaar omdat de geplande huurders hebben afgezegd. We plannen op dinsdag vroeg te vertrekken omdat ik graag op tijd bij Chateau de Versailles wil zijn voor de dressuurwedstrijd. We hebben een afspraak met de manager en besluiten om al op maandag te gaan. Dat komt ineens heel goed uit want de Omega organisatie eist (!) dat alle vrijwillegers die laser operator zijn ter plekke nog een keer oefenen. Pffff. Dat kan wat mij betreft alleen de maandag middag, maar dat wordt goedgekeurd. Ondertussen ook een herhaling van de cursus on-line. Daar ben ik wel heel blij mee want ik was eigenlijk de finesses een beetje vergeten! Via FB zie ik dat de Olympische Vlam op de Golf Nationaal is. Wat gaaf. De doorgevers zijn allemaal mensen die wat betekenen of hebben betekent voor de golfsport in Frankrijk. O.a. op de foto Thomas Levet (winnaar Open de France), Jean van de Velde (de eerste franse speler uitgenodigd om te spelen in een Ryder Cup team), Gwladys Nocera (op de LPA gespeeld en gewonnen en begeleider van hoog niveau franse golfsters) en nog veel meer natuurlijk. Wat een eer om daarvoor uitgenodigd te zijn. En wat een prachtige outfit.

Là, un autre défi nous attend : nous allons jouer au Golf National, puisque nous y sommes ! Le parcours sera bientôt fermé aux membres et aux joueurs au greenfee et membres, pour mettre les aires de départ, les fairways et les greens en parfait état.
Heureusement, nous pouvons encore réserver un départ. C’est un peu chaotique au départ du trou numéro 1, il y a beaucoup, voir trop de joueurs. Le marshall réorganise les groupes sur place. Nous jouons avec deux messieurs (père et fils) et on joue le premier trou. Il devient vite évident comment le parcours est préparé : les fairways très étroits, puis une zone de « premier cut » très jouable, suivie d'un « second cut ». Dans ce rough, je réussi à trouver la balle, mais j'ai beaucoup de mal à la sortir(!). Et puis il y a le vrai rough. Eh bien, que dire à ce sujet ? Balle de golf introuvable et certainement injouable ! Nous espérons pour les joueurs qu'ils pourront frapper droit et qu'il y aura de bons spotters.
Je suis contente de mon birdie au 16 (par 3, drapeau à l'arrière gauche), à noter que personne de notre partie ne finit le trou 18 !
Mais il faut dire que le parcours est magnifique et la construction des tribunes et des tentes VIP est beaucoup plus avancée qu’au mois de mai, lorsque nous y étions pour la première fois. Après notre partie, nous retournons d'abord à notre B&B, puis nous allons à vélo au Golf National pour tester le trajet. L'aller se fait à travers la forêt, suivi d'un verre au Golf. Le retour par Châteaufort est un peu une défie ; route difficile et épuisante. On a l’impression que ça monte et monte et encore ! Je pense que nous ne la reprendrons pas. Ensuite, nous avons dîné à Milon-la-Chapelle, à l'Auberge de La Chapelle, encore une recommandation !

Now awaits another challenge; we're going to play the Golf National since we’re here anyway! The course will soon be closed to members and green fee players to get the course, teeing areas, fairways, and greens in tip-top shape. Fortunately, we can still book a tee time. Honestly, it’s a bit chaotic at the 1st tee, with quite a few players waiting. The marshal comes over and reorganizes all players on the spot.
We play with two men (father and son), and we tee off on hole 1. It soon becomes clear how the course is prepared: very narrow fairways, then a 'first cut' which is very playable, followed by a second cut. There, you can find the ball, but I have a lot of difficulty getting the ball out. And then there’s the real rough. Well, what can you say about that? The golf ball is unfindable and certainly unplayable! We hope the players will play as straight as they can and that they have good spotters.
I’m happy with my birdie on 16 (par 3, flag left at the back), but honestly no one in our flight finishes the 18th hole!
However, the course is beautiful, and the construction of the grandstand and VIP tents has progressed a lot compared to the month of May when we were here for the first time. After our round, we first go back to our B&B and then cycle to the Golf National to try out the route. We cycle through the forest, followed by a drink at the Golf. The way back via Chateaufort is quite a challenge: difficult, very hilly and exhausting. I have a strong idea that we won’t take that route again. We then had dinner in Milon-la-Chapelle at Auberge de La Chapelle, which is another recommendation!

Nu komt alweer een nieuwe challenge, we gaan de Golf National spelen want we zijn er nu toch! De baan wordt binnenkort uiteraard gesloten voor leden en greenfee spelers, om de teeing-areas, fairways en greens tiptop in orde te maken.
We kunnen gelukkig nog een tee-tijd boeken. Het is eerlijk gezegd een beetje chaotisch op de 1e tee, er staan heel wat spelers. De marshall komt de spelers ter plekke opnieuw indelen.
Wij spelen met 2 heren (vader en zoon) en we slaan af op hole 1. Al gauw blijkt hoe de baan is voorbereid, hele smalle fairways, dan een stukje ‘premier cut’ die heel goed speelbaar is, vervolgens een second cut. In deze rough vind je de bal wel maar ik heb de grootste moeite mijn bal eruit te slaan. En dan de echte rough. Nou ja, wat kun je daar over zeggen. Golfbal onvindbaar en zeker onspeelbaar! We hopen voor de spelers op rechtdoor slaan en goede spotters. Ben blij met mijn birdie op 16 (par 3, vlag links achterop), eerlijkgezegd, de 18e hole wordt door niemand uitgespeeld, we zijn er klaar mee!
Maar de baan is prachtig en de opbouw van de grandstand en VIP tenten is al veel verder gevorderd dan in mei toe wij er voor de eerste keer waren.
Na ons rondje gaan we eerst terug naar onze B&B en daarna op de fiets naar de Golf National om de route uit te proberen. De heenweg door het bos, gevolgd door drankje op de Golf. De terugweg via Chateaufort is nog wel een dingetje. Moeilijke en uitputtende weg. Ik vermoed dat we die niet nog een keer nemen. Vervolgens in Milon-la-Chapelle gedineerd bij Auberge de La Chapelle, alweer een aanrader!

Entre-temps, encore plus d'emails de l’organisation des bénévoles et aussi une nouvelle vente de billets. Je réussi à obtenir un billet pour l’équitation (dressage). Quelle chance ! Les informations concernent principalement la tenue pour les bénévoles. L'organisation a créé une brochure (disponible en ligne) et il faut choisir où on souhaite récupérer son tenue. Je choisis Paris, Porte de Versailles.

Le protocole : d'abord l'accréditation puis le tenue. Je réserve en ligne un créneau horaire pour aller le récupérer. Nous y allons à nouveau (le 26 juin) et logeons de nouveau à Magny. Nous décidons de ne pas aller en transports publics au Porte de Versailles mais en voiture et de nous garer à proximité. Ça fonctionne. Arrivés au Centre d'Accréditation, beaucoup de personnes font la queue. La première file dure une heure, la deuxième une demi-heure et ensuite l'accréditation (5 minutes). Il fait chaud et malheureusement, quelqu'une fait une malaise. Elle est immédiatement prise en charge par des bénévoles et le SAMU intervient également. Alex m’attend à l’extérieur et nous nous dirigeons ensemble vers le centre de distribution des vêtements (tout est organisé par Decathlon). C'est comme un magasin : ma nouvelle accréditation est d'abord scannée (pour la première fois !) puis j’entre dans le magasin. Il faut essayer la totalité. Polo, veste, pantalon, chapeau de soleil, chaussures), indiquez la taille souhaitée puis rendez-vous au point de distribution. Là, tout est mis dans un sac, comprenant 1 veste, 2 pantalons, 4 polos et chaussettes et une paire de chaussures. De retour au B&B et ensuite diner au Resto Indien à Chevreuse (notre restaurant favorit)!

In the meantime, more emails from the volunteer organization and also new ticket sales. Through another channel, I managed to get an entry ticket for dressage (equitation). How fun is that! The information from the volunteer organization is mainly about the uniform for the volunteers. The organization has made a brochure (available online), and you need to choose where you want to pick up your uniform. I choose Paris, Porte de Versailles. The protocol, of course: first the accreditation and then the uniform. I book a time online to pick it up. We head there again (June 26) and stay in Magny once more. We decide not to take public transportation to the Porte de Versailles, but to go by car and park nearby. It works out. Upon arriving at the Accreditation Center, there are many people in line. The first line takes 1 hour, the second line, takes half an hour, and then the accreditation (5 minutes). It is warm in the hall, and unfortunately, someone does gets unwell. They are immediately assisted by volunteers, and the Samu (emergency medical service) also gets involved.

Alex is waiting outside, and together we walk to the distribution center to pick up the volunteer uniform (all organized by Decathlon). It feels like a store: first, your newly acquired accreditation is scanned (for the first time!), and then you go to a shop. You must try everything on (polo, jacket, pants, sun hat, shoes), indicate your size, and then go to the pickup point. Everything is put into a bag there, including 1 bob, 2 pairs of pants, 4 polos and socks, a vest and a pair of shoes. We then head back to the B&B, and we enjoyed a nice Indian meal in our favorite Restaurant.

Ondertussen nog meer e-mails van de volontairs organisatie en ook nieuwe kaartverkoop. Via via kan ik toch nog aan een entrée kaartje voor dressuur komen. Hoe leuk is dat. De info van de voluntair organisatie gaat verder voornamelijk over het tenue voor de vrijwilligers. De organisatie heeft een brochure (online beschikbaar) gemaakt en je moet een keuze maken waar je je tenue wil ophalen. Ik kies voor Parijs, Porte de Versailles. Het protocol uiteraard: eerst de accreditatie en dan het tenue. Online boek ik een tijd om dit te gaan ophalen. We gaan er weer heen (26 juni) en logeren opnieuw in Magny. We besluiten om niet met het OV naar het Centre d’Accréditation te gaan maar met de auto en in de buurt te parkeren. Dat lukt. Aangekomen bij het Centre d’Accréditation blijken er heel veel mensen in de rij staan. Daar had ik niet op gerekend. De 1e rij duurt 1 uur, de 2e rij een half uur (foto) en dan de accreditatie (5 minuten). Het is er warm en helaas wordt toch iemand onwel. Zij wordt meteen door vrijwilligers opgevangen en de Samu komt er ook aan te pas. Alex zit buiten te wachten en we lopen samen naar het distributie center voor de kleding (alles georganiseerd door Decathlon). Het is net een winkel, eerst wordt je nieuw verworven accreditatie gescand (1e keer!) en dan ga je naar een winkel. Alles passen (polo, jack, broek, zonnehoed, schoenen), aangeven welke maat en dan ga je naar het uitgifte punt. Daar wordt alles in een tas gedaan, zonnehoed, jack, 2 broeken en 4 polo’s en sokken en ook nog een paar schoenen. Terug naar het B&B en lekker Indiaas gegeten in ons favoriete Restaurant!

La date s’approche et nous nous inquiétons de la façon dont nous allons nous rendre au Golf National depuis notre résidence temporaire. La région de la Chevreuse est très belle mais très vallonnée, les routes sont étroites et les voitures roulent vite. D’y aller à vélo semble risqué. Nous décidons d’aller voir sur place. Nous réservons un B&B à Magny. Nous visitons d’abord le Golf National où les préparatifs battent leur plein. Cependant, ils ne peuvent pas encore nous dire où sera l’entrée. C’est quand même particulier ! Il est maintenant clair qu’il y aura des navettes vers le Golf National à partir de deux stations : Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines et Massy/Palaiseau. Comment y arriver ? Finalement, nous trouvons quelques solutions intermédiaires, mais la rencontre avec une résidente (à 2,5 km du Golf) qui nous permet de garer notre voiture chez elle et de laisser nos vélos sur place est vraiment géniale pour nous. Il y a vraiment des gens gentils et serviables !

The date is getting closer, and we are worried about how to get to the Golf National from our temporary accommodation. The Chevreuse area is very beautiful but very hilly, and the roads are narrow with quite fast traffic. Cycling is a risk. We decide to go there to find out for ourselves. We book a B&B in Magny. First, we visit the Golf National where the preparations are in full swing. However, they still can't tell us where the entrance will be. Quite peculiar! In the meantime, it has also become clear that there will be shuttles to the Golf National from two stations: Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines and Massy/Palaiseau. But how do we get there? Well, we find some possible solutions, but we meet a resident by coincidence who lives 2,5 kms from the Golf National. De datum komt steeds dichterbij en we maken ons zorgen hoe we op de Golf National komen vanuit ons tijdelijke verblijf. De streek Chevreuse is heel mooi maar erg heuvelachtig en de wegen zijn smal en er wordt best hard gereden. Fietsen is een risico. We besluiten om het ter plekke te gaan bekijken. We boeken een B&B in Magny. Eerst bezoeken we de Golf Nationaal waar de opbouw in volle gang is. Ze kunnen ons echter nog niet zeggen waar de ingang zal zijn. Toch wel apart! Inmiddels is ook duidelijk dat er navettes gaan naar de Golf National vanaf 2 stations. St Quentin en Yvelines en Massy/Palaiseau. Hoe komen we daar? Enfin we vinden wat tussenoplossingen maar de ontmoeting met een bewoonster (2,5 km van de Golf) die ons vervolgens toestaat bij haar onze auto te parkeren en onze fietsen te stallen is voor ons helemaal geweldig. Wat zijn er toch aardige en behulpzame mensen!

Pendant ce temps, nous sommes déjà en avril 2024 et il s'avère qu'il reste encore des billets invendus. Chaque jeudi à 10 heures, de nouveaux billets sont mis en vente.
Comme je connais déjà mon emploi du temps (1er au 4 août pour le tournoi messieurs – 7 au 10 août pour les dames), nous n'avons, pour ainsi dire, 'rien' à faire les 5 et 6 août.
Lors d'une de ces réouvertures de vente, nous avons réussi à obtenir des billets pour l'athlétisme, et pour un programme où quelques favoris néerlandais (Femke Bol, Lieke Klaver) pourraient participer.
Nous l'espérons bien sûr.
C'est encore un nouveau défi car l'athlétisme se tient au Stade de France, tout au nord de Paris, et nous sommes au sud de Paris.
Heureusement, il existe une nouvelle application 'mobilité en Île-de-France' qui permet de visualiser et programmer très facilement l'itinéraire à suivre, où monter et à quelle station descendre.
L'application est téléchargeable et très claire. Chapeau pour cette application, très pratique et elle fonctionne bien.

Meanwhile, it's already April 2024, and it turns out that a lot of tickets are still unsold. Every Thursday at 10 o'clock, new tickets go on sale.
Since I already know my schedule (men's competition from August 1 to 4 – women from August 7 to 10), we have "nothing" to do on August 5 and 6.
In one of these re-launches, I managed to get tickets for Athletics, a program where a few Dutch favorites (Femke Bol, Lieke Klaver) might participate.
That's what we hope, of course. This presents a new challenge because athletics will be held at the Stade de France, all the way in the north of Paris, while we are staying in the south of Paris.
A new and fantastic app has been created called ‘Mobilité en Île-de-France’.
That makes it very easy to check how to get from A to B and that proposes by train, metro, bus or tram. Also where to get on and which station to get off.
You can just download the app; it's super clear. Hats off to get this app in place and in time, very handy and works well.

Ondertussen is het al april 2024 en nu blijkt dat er nog een heleboel kaarten onverkocht zijn. Iedere donderdag om 10 uur worden er nieuwe tickets in de verkoop gedaan.
Aangezien ik mijn schema al ken (1 t/m 4 augustus heren – 7 t/m 10 augustus dames), hebben we zogezegd ‘niets’ te doen op 5 en 6 augustus.
In zo’n re-launch lukt het om tickets te krijgen voor Atletiek en wel een programma waar een paar Nederlandse favorieten (Femke Bol, Lieke Klaver) wellicht meedoen. Dat hopen we natuurlijk.
Dit is weer een nieuwe challenge want atletiek wordt gehouden in het Stade de France, helemaal in het noorden van Parijs en wij zitten ten zuiden van Parijs.
Inmiddels is er een fantastische app ‘mobilité en ile de france’ waarmee je heel makkelijk het af te leggen traject kunt bekijken: waar stap je op en welk station moet je er weer uit.
De app kun je gewoon downloaden, super overzichtelijk.
Petje af weer voor deze app, heel erg handig en werkt goed.

L'organisation des bénévoles fait un excellent travail.
Pendant les Jeux Olympiques et les Jeux Paralympiques, environ 45 000 bénévoles seront impliqués, tous dans différents domaines et sports.
La coordination de toutes ces personnes et des divers sports est immense ! Pour rester sur la bonne voie (!), nous devons regarder pas mal de vidéos de motivation, mettant en vedette d'anciens grands athlètes français.
Ces vidéos sont obligatoires ; sinon, on ne peut pas passer à la vidéo suivante.
L'une des vidéos est vraiment remarquable.
Le sujet : comment traiter les spectateurs handicapés.
Cela a été incroyablement bien expliqué par une anciene para-athlète olympique.
J'ai appris beaucoup grâce à elle et cette vidéo. Elle m'a vraiment impressionnée.

In the meantime, the volunteer organization is doing a very good job.
During the Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games, around 45,000 volunteers will be involved, all in different areas and different sports.
The coordination of all these people and the various sports is immense! To keep us ‘on our toes’ we have to watch quite a few motivational videos to stay on track, featuring previous top French athletes.
These videos are mandatory; otherwise, you cannot proceed to the next video which you should to function as a volunteer.
One of the videos really stood out.
The topic: how to deal with visitors with disabilities. It was incredibly well explained by a former para-Olympic athlete who faces this daily. I learned a lot from it and was truly impressed.
Bravo.

De volontair organisatie is in de tussentijd heel goed bezig, er zullen tijdens de Olympische Spelen en de Para Olympische Spelen, rond de 45.000 vrijwilligers betrokken zijn. Allen op verschillend gebied.

We moeten daartoe heel wat motiverende filmpjes bekijken om bij de les te blijven waar voorgaande olympische Franse topsporters aan het woord komen.

Pendant l'hiver 2023/2024, il ne se passe pas grand-chose, en tout cas rien de notable pour nous les volontaires.
L'organisation est bien sûr très occupée et il devient évident que des mesures de sécurité énormes vont être mises en place.
Sur plusieurs sites web de ‘gouv.fr’, apparaissent les sites de compétition situés à Paris et en périphérie (dont le Golf National) ainsi que les zones de sécurité désignées autour de ces sites.
Il est également souligné que ces Jeux seront exemplaires sur le plan écologique et climatique.
Ce que cela signifie concrètement devient peu à peu clair : aucune ou le moins de voitures possible ne sera autorisée, donc pas de parkings (comme pour le Ryder Cup), seulement des navettes spéciales depuis les gares de St-Quentin-en-Yvelines et Massy/Palaiseau, qui permettant les visiteurs de rejoindre certains les sportifs comme le Golf National. De plus, il est encouragé d'utiliser autant que possible les transports en commun (déjà surchargés à Paris), ou la marche ou le vélo.
Ahah cela pose quand même un problème car Paris est assez grand!
Encore un problème à résoudre ! Comment allons-nous de Choisel au Golf National ?

During the winter of 2023/2024, not much is happening, at least nothing noteworthy for us the volonteers.
The organization is, of course, very busy, and it is clear that extensive security measures will be implemented.
On several 'gouv.fr' websites, the competition sites in and just outside Paris (including the Golf National) and the surrounding safety zones are being announced.
It is also emphasized that these Games will be at the forefront of ecological and climate-related efforts.
What that means concretely is becoming gradually clearer: no or as few cars as possible will be allowed, so no parking spaces, only special shuttles (buses) to transport visitors to certain sports complexes.
Furthermore, the use of public transport (which is already overcrowded in Paris), walking, or cycling is being encouraged as much as possible.
This seems quite a challenge because Paris is rather big!
Another issue to solve! How will we get from Choisel to the Golf National?

Gedurende de winter2023/2024 gebeurt er niet veel, in ieder geval niets opvallends.
De organisatie is natuurlijk heel druk bezig en het wordt duidelijk dat er enorme veiligheidsmaatregelen getroffen gaan worden.
Op enkele websites vanuit ‘gouv.fr’ verschijnen de wedstrijd sites die zich in en net buiten Parijs bevinden (o.a. de Golf Nationaal) en de daaromheen aangemerkte safety-zones.
En ook dat er op gehamerd wordt dat deze Spelen op ecologisch of klimaat technisch gebied vooraanstaand zijn.
Wat dat concreet betekent wordt langzaamaan duidelijk: geen of zo min mogelijk auto’s zijn toegestaan, dus geen parkeer plaatsen, alleen speciale navettes (bussen) waarmee bezoekers bepaalde sportcomplexen kunnen bereiken.
Verder wordt gestimuleerd om zoveel mogelijk gebruik te maken van het openbaar vervoer (wat toch al overbezet is in Parijs), met de benenwagen ofwel de fiets.
Dat is nog wel een dingetje want Parijs is best wel groot!!!
Weer een probleempje om op te lossen!! Want hoe komen wij van Choisel naar de Golf Nationaal??

Entretemps je reçois beaucoup d’emails des ‘volontaires de paris’.
Tous en français, malgré qu’il y a beaucoup de volontaires non-français.
Comment est-ce ces volontaires comprennent ?
Je reçois une email pour être ‘walking scorer’ ou laser operator.
Il faut d’abord passer une formation en ligne avec un examen à la fin, que je réussi. Ensuite je suis invitée pour participer à un test-event au Golf National pendant le Championnat de France des Jeunes au mois de juillet 2023.
L’organisation de ce test event est géré par Omega qui est responsable pendant les JO pour tous qui est à mesurer, soit distance ou temps.
Pendant le briefing dans l’amphithéâtre au Golf National une petite révolution se produisait ( !). Tous ont voulu être walking scorer (comme moi) mais la sélection a été faite déjà.
Donc on me propose laser operator. Il y a 64 autres personnes comme moi chaque jour de compétition
Le laser-operator coté green, est responsable de mesurer la distance de la balle de chaque joueur vers le trou (au mm près) et cette information est toute de suite disponible pour la presse internationale.
Après le 1er jour de test, je suis plus ou moins ravie de cette poste. Intéressant et très près des joueurs.
Donc je suis contente et avec moi 59 autres (quelques bénévoles ont du quittés le test event après la petite révolution dans l’amphithéâtre !!)

In the meantime I receive a lot of emails from the volunteer organization. These are all in French. I have no idea how all the foreign speaking volunteers manage to understand them.
Finally there is an invitation to become either walking scorer or laser operator. First all volunteers had to pass a test online which I think I did successfully.
This is followed by a test in real-life: during the French National Championships for young players in July 2023 at the Golf National.
The organization is managed by Omega who is responsible for everything that is measured, be it distance or time during the Olympic Games.
So we had a briefing at the Golf National and the scorers were selected.
A small revolution occurred because people were not happy with the way it was handled.
Anyway, after the first test-event day all laser operators (including me) were exited about the job at hand. You are very close to the players (I was on the 14th green) inside the ropes. As a green-side laser operator you are responsible to measure the distance the ball at rest has to the hole, which immediately becomes available to the international Press. I liked it and with me 59 others as we 5 abandoned right after the small revolution at the briefing!!

Ondertussen krijg ik veel e-mails van de volontair organisatie. Allemaal in het Frans, terwijl er toch genoeg niet-Franstaligen zijn. Hoe begrijpen die dat dan???
Enfin, uiteindelijk komt er een uitnodiging om laser operator cq walking-scorer te worden met een daarbij behorende on-line cursus. OK deze cursus gedaan en ‘gehaald’.
Vervolgens komt er een uitnodiging om mee te doen aan een test-event op de Golf National. Eind juli ’23 daaraan meegedaan tijdens de nationale Franse jeugdkampioenschappen.
De organisatie is in handen van Omega, die alles doet wat maar iets met meten te maken heeft met meten (afstand en/of tijd) tijdens de Olympische Spelen.
We kregen op de Golf National een briefing in het amfitheater. Er ontstond een kleine revolutie want niet iedereen kreeg de positie toegewezen waar ze op rekenden. Eigenlijk had ik natuurlijk gehoopt walking scorer te worden maar mij werd de positie van laser-operator aangeboden (en met mij de 64 andere vrijwilligers).
Gedurende 2 dagen Championnat des Jeunes met het systeem gewerkt. En iedereen was razend enthousiast, inclusief ikke!
Als green-side laser operator meet je de afstand van de bal op of bij de green t.o.v. t.o.v. de hole. Deze gegevens zijn onmiddellijk beschikbaar voor de internationale pers.
Eigenlijk hartstikke leuk en je zit heel dichtbij de spelers.

Bien, les billets sont assurés.
La suite des choses n’est pas très clair au mois de mai 2023 (comment obtenir les billets p.e.), mais j’ai beaucoup de confiance pour cela ! Alors il faut trouver un hébergement pour presque 2 semaines, de préférence pas trop cher ni trop loin du Golf National non plus.
Un sacré projet m’attend parce que pas mal de logements sont déjà pris ou à un tarif extraordinairement cher.
Le gîte que j’avais trouvé en 2018 pendant le Ryder Cup n’était plus à louer non plus.
Avec l’aide de google( !), j’ai pu trouver un petit appart au dessus d’un auberge à Choisel. Ça l’air bien, mais…. pas disponible pour toute la période. La propriétaire me propose une chambre (d’hôtes) pour les jours de non-disponibilité.
Encore une chose à supprimer de ma liste à faire !

So the tickets are secured.
Not sure yet how things will evolve as it is May 2023, f.i. no instructions were given how to recuperate the tickets but I’m sure that will be no problem!
Now the next problem: we need a place to stay for almost 2 weeks. Preferably not too far from the Golf National and certainly not too expensive.
It is immediately clear that it will not be easy to find a place to stay as a lot has already been rented out or is ridiculously expensive.
The gîte we stayed in during the Ryder Cup was also no longer available.
But google is a helpful tool and I managed to find a small apartment in Choisel. It looks really nice but not available for the whole period that we needed it. The owner proposed a B&B in the same village.
Another issue to tick off my list, we had a place to stay for the whole period!

OK de kaarten hebben we.
Hoe dat verder gaat is in mei 2023 helemaal niet duidelijk, maar dat gaat goedkomen! En dan nu…. Waar gaan we logeren?
Dat was ook nog niet zo eenvoudig want veel was al geboekt of gigantisch duur. De gîte waar ik verbleef tijdens de Ryder Cup bleek niet meer in de verhuur.
Je wil natuurlijk ook niet te ver weg van de Golf Nationaal zitten.
Na wat gegoogeld vond ik een appartementje boven een Auberge in Choisel. Ziet er goed uit…. geboekt maar kon niet de hele periode boeken want anderen waren me voor.
Gelukkig had dezelfde eigenaar nog een kamer in haar B&B beschikbaar, geboekt voor de ontbrekende dagen.
Zo: dat kon ook weer van het lijstje!

Les Jeux Olympiques à Paris, quelle chance !
Comment et quoi ? Le bénévolat, bien sûr, à travers la plateforme des volontaires, et évidemment pour le golf. Mais que faire s'on me propose une poste que je n’aime pas ? Alors, il me faut aussi des billets d'entrée.
Ce processus a été assez stressant. D'abord, il fallait s'inscrire sur une autre plateforme, où l'ordinateur tirait au sort les noms pour être éligible à un autre tirage au sort afin d'acheter des billets individuels, puis un autre tirage pour obtenir un créneau horaire pour réellement pouvoir acheter les billets. Quel stress !
Premier tirage → sélectionnée, deuxième tirage → sélectionnée. Créneau horaire le 14 mai à partir de 14h, pour 24 heures maximum.
Après beaucoup de stress derrière l'ordi, j'ai réussi à acheter pas mal de billets.
SUCCÈS ! Les billets pour tous les jours du tournoi masculin et féminin sont confirmés.

C'était le mois de mai 2023…

A noter : le Golf Olympique se joue au Golf National (où il y avait le Ryder Cup en 2018). L’épreuve Hommes est du 1er au 4 août et l’épreuve Femmes sera du 7 au 10 août. 60 joueurs et joueuses participent pendant 4 tours de Stroke play.

The Olympic Games in Paris in 2024, what an opportunity! How and what? Volunteering, of course through the volunteer platform, and obviously for golf. But what if they offer me volunteer mission that I don’t like?
So I have to make sure to have entry tickets as well. That was very exciting. First, you had to register on another platform, where the computer would presumably draw your name to be eligible for another draw to buy individual tickets, and then another draw to get a time slot to actually purchase the tickets. What a stress!
First draw → selected, second draw → selected. Time slot on 14 May from 2 pm, and then for a maximum of 24 hours.
After a lot of stressfull hours, I managed to buy quite a few tickets. SUCCESS!
The tickets for all days of the men’s tournament and the women’s tournament are confirmed.

That was May 2023…

FYI : Olympic Golf will be played at the Golf National (the course where the Ryder Cup 2018 was held). The men’s tournament is from 1 to 4 August and the ladies play from 7 to 10 August. 60 male and female players have been selected, the tournament is 4 days stroke play without a cut.

De Olympische Spelen in Parijs, dat is een kans! Hoe en wat? Vrijwilliger natuurlijk dat ging/gaat via het volontair platform en dan voor golf uiteraard.
Maar ja als ze je nou iets aanbieden dat je niet leuk vindt….. dan toch ook maar entree kaartjes kopen.
Dat was heel spannend en een heel gedoe eigenlijk.
Eerst weer inschrijven op een ander platform, daar werd je door de computer denk ik ingeloot om ingeloot te worden om individuele tickets te kopen om dan vervolgens weer ingeloot te worden om een slot-tijd te krijgen om de tickets daadwerkelijk te kopen.
Wat een stress. 1e loting → ingeloot, 2e loting → ingeloot.
Tijdslot op 14 mei vanaf 14 uur en dan maximaal voor 24 uur.
Na heel wat stressvolle uurtjes achter de computer en gepuzzel kan ik een heel aantal kaartjes kopen.
GELUKT! De kaarten voor alle dagen herentoernooi en damestoernooi zijn geconfirmeerd.

Dat was mei 2023…….

Ter info: Olympisch Golf is op de Golf National (waar ook in 2018 de Ryder Cup is gespeeld). Herentoernooi begint op 1 augustus t/m 4 augustus en het damestoernooi is van 7 augustus t/m 10 augustus. Beide toernooien 60 spelers/sters, geen cut 4 dagen stroke play.
