Première journée du tournoi féminin, avec Anne van Dam. Aujourd'hui est aussi ma première journée au trou 13. La presse internationale a utilisé de très beaux mots pour le décrire, je reviendrai peut-être là-dessus plus tard. Mon service commence plus tard que la semaine dernière, ce qui me laisse l'opportunité de voir quelques joueuses au départ et peut-être même de les suivre un peu ? Mais c'est aussi le jour des selfies !

Tout d'abord, je rencontre Ludivine Kreutz, une ancienne joueuse du circuit LPGA, avec qui j'ai travaillé lors d'un tournoi EGA à Saint-Germain, puis un selfie avec une amie golfeuse, Françoise, et ensuite avec Anne Ridoux, notre Présidente de Ligue !

C’est trop bien !
Il est évident que les supporters néerlandais sont présents, avec enfin une participation néerlandaise. Ils sont toujours super reconnaissables !
Pour explorer le trou 13, je passe par les opérateurs de laser responsables du fairway, et l'un d'entre eux, Philippe Esteban, je connais aussi ! Quelle coïncidence.
Ensuite, je repère la zone de drop au cas où, car il y a pas mal d'eau sur ce trou. Alex vient également jeter un coup d'œil pour voir comment ça se passe dans ma tour. Il faut s’habituer au nouveau trou et l'ombre joue aussi un rôle pour bien voir la balle sur l'écran du laser. Mon "partenaire laser" laisse accidentellement tomber le clipboard suivi de ses lunettes. Toute tombe entre l’échafaudage et le décor en tissu qui cache l’échafaudage de Paris 2024. Un peu de panique, mais des voluntaires présent nous aident heureusement à tout récupérer, car il faut continuer...

Après mon service, je vois les greenkeepers travailler sur le trou 3. Bien sûr, je vais les voir, et après quelques questions, voici les réponses : il y a environ 90 greenkeepers, venant de nombreux pays différents. La journée commence vers 6 heures. Tout est tondu. Les fairways en formation (je les ai vus avec des panneaux orange à l'arrière des tondeuses) chaque matin. Même les aires de départ non utilisées sont tondues (car c'est pour la télévision). Les greens et les aires de départ sont tondus à la main. Ils travaillent environ 5 heures. Ensuite, une pause, et après le passage des derniers joueurs, ils manucurent et retravaillent les bunkers. C'est vraiment fantastique et ils en sont très fiers.

En revenant vers la sortie, je vois la foule autour du 18e trou pour accueillir Celine Boutier sur le green. C'était encore une journée magnifique!

First day of the women’s tournament, with Anne van Dam. And today is my first day on hole 13. The international press has had some very interesting things to say about this hole; I might come back to that later. My shift starts later than last week, gi
ving me a chance to watch some players tee off and maybe even follow them for a bit. But it’s also the day of selfies!

First, I meet Ludivine Kreutz, a former LPGA Tour player, whom I worked with during an EGA tournament at Saint-Germain, then a selfie with a golf friend Françoise, and finally with Anne Ridoux, our Ligue President! How fun is that?
It’s clear that the Dutch supporters are present, as there finally is a Dutch player! The Dutch fans are always super recognizable!
To familiarize myself with hole 13, I walk past the laser operators responsible for the fairway, and I happen to know one of them, Philippe Esteban! What a coincidence.

Then I spot the dropping zone, just in case! There’s quite a bit of water on this hole. Alex also stops by to see out how things are on my ‘new’ tower. It takes some getting used to being on this new hole, and the shadows also play a role in how well you can see the ball on the laser screen. My 'laser partner' accidentally drops the clipboard, followed by his glasses. Everything falls between the scaffolding and the beautiful Paris 2024 enclosure. A bit of panic, but luckily, some volunteers help retrieve everything because we need to keep going...
After my shift, I see the greenkeepers working on hole 3.

Of course, I approach them, and after a few questions, here are some answers: there are around 90 greenkeepers, coming from many different countries. The morning starts around 6:00 AM. Everything gets mowed. In formation (I’ve seen them with orange boards on the back of the mowers), the fairways are mowed every morning. Even the unused tee boxes are mowed (better TV image). The greens and tee boxes are mowed with hand mowers. They work for about 5 hours. Then there’s a break, and after the last players have passed, they manicure and touch up the bunkers. It’s really fantastic, and they’re very proud.
As I walk back, I see the crowd gathered around the 18th hole to welcome Celine Boutier on the green. It was another beautiful day!

Eerste dag van het dames toernooi, met Anne van Dam. Vandaag is mijn eerste dag op hole 13. De internationale pers heeft er hele mooie woorden voor, misschien kom ik daar nog op terug. Mijn shift begint later dan vorige week, de kans om wat speelsters te zien afslaan en misschien te volgen? Maar het is ook de dag van de selfies!!! Eerst ontmoet ik Ludivine Kreutz, een voormalig speeltser op de LPGA tour, waar ik mee samen heb gewerkt tijdens een EGA toernooi op Saint-Germain, en vervolgens selfie met een golfvriendien Françoice en daarna met Anne Ridoux, onze Présidente de Ligue! Hoe leuk kan het lopen.

Het is wel duidelijk dat de Nederlandse supporters aanwezig zijn, eindelijk nederlandse deelname. Ze zijn altijd super herkenbaar! Om hole 13 te verkennen loop ik langs de laser operators verantwoordelijk voor de fairway, en een daarvan ken ik ook, Philippe Esteban! Wat toevallig toch. Vervolgens zie ik de dropping zone voor het geval dat!
Want er is nogal wat water op deze hole.

Alex komt ook even kijken hoe het is op mijn toren. Het is toch wel wennen op een nieuwe hole, en de schaduw speelt ook een rol om de bal goed te kunnen zien op het laser-scherm. Mijn ‘laser-partner’ laat het clipboard per ongeluk vallen gevogld door zijn bril. Alles ligt tussen de stelling en het prachtige omhulsel van Paris 2024. Beetje paniek, OS-vrijwillers in de buurt helpen het terug te pakken. Gelukkig want we moeten door......
Na mijn shift zie ik de greenkeepers werken op hole 3. Natuurlijk stap ik erop af en na een aantal vragen hier wat antwoorden: er zijn rond de 90 greenkeepers, ze komen uit veel verschillende landen. De ochtend begint rond half 5, zes uur. Alles wordt gemaaid. In formatie (ik heb ze gezien met oranje borden achterop de maaiers) worden elke ochtend de fairways gemaaid. Ook de afslagplaatsen die niet gebruikt worden worden gemaaid (want dat is voor de televisie). De greens en afslagplaatsen met handmaaiers. Ze werken ongeveer 5 uur. Dan pauze en nadat de laatste spelers doorzijn volgt het manicuren en bunkers bijwerken. Echt fantastisch en ze zijn ook heel trots.
Teruglopend zie ik de hoeveelheid mensen die rond de 18e zitten om Celine Boutier te verwelkomen op de green. Het was weer een prachtige dag!
